A hippopotamus, commonly referred to as a hippo, is a large semi-aquatic mammal native to Africa. They are known for their massive size, barrel-shaped body, and distinctive wide-open mouth with large teeth. Hippos are herbivores and spend most of their time in water, usually near rivers, lakes, and swamps. They are territorial animals and live in groups led by a dominant male known as the “bull”.
